Why you need thermoses for your kids lunches!

We love using the thermos for my kids lunches. First of all my kids love leftovers. So for us it’s a win win... we use up food and my kids get a delicious healthy lunch that they’ll actually eat! A thermos is not for just soups, it’s really for any food you want to keep warm. Just follow this simple method!

The key is a high quality lunch box friendly thermos. Amazon. Amazon. Target. We have one Thermos brand and one Sub Zero. I like both equally. If you can find one that is top rack dishwasher friendly, that’s a big mom win!

Step 1: Boil water on the stove top
Step 2: Once the water is to a roaring boil. Pour into thermos and seal.
Step 3: Heat up food to put in Thermos
Step 4: once food is hot, pour boiling water out.
Step 5: put hot food in hot thermos (if you are adding some non-liquid, you might dry it out with a paper towel)
Step 6: tight and seal up the thermos

Some things that we put in our thermos; soups, of course. Spaghetti or any pasta, Mac & cheese, chicken nuggets, rice & quinoa blend, scrambled eggs & sausage, leftover cheeseburger patty (no bun). Left over veggie stir fry.  This is just the tip of the iceberg. Really the sky is the limit.

My oldest isn’t a big sandwich person. So thermos days are her favorite. Truthfully they are my favorite too. I feel great about sending her a lunch she’ll love and not waste.

  1. I didn’t find the subzero brand lunch thermos’ to be especially good at keeping food hot for very long. I bought A set of two. The large one does a better job, but if i want my coffee hot all day i have to rubber-band a towel around it. The smaller one hardly kept the coffee warm til lunch. Still looking for the ideal thermos.

DIY Salon Worthy Manicure at Home

DIY salon manicure at home So, like many of you mamas I don’t always have time to sneak off to the nail salon to get a manicure. Not only that, but weekly trips to the salon are not always in the budget. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love going to the salon. But the logistics get tough, I have to find someone to watch the youngest of my kiddos. So, a $30 manicure turns into a $50 outing once I pay the babysitter. More often than not, I do my nails at home. Here is how I am able achieve a salon look quickly at home. I tend do my nails at night after the kids are all in bed, while watching TV.  Starting with clean dry nails, here is my process. First, I rub hand sanitizer or rubbing alcohol on on my nails. This takes the excess oil off of my nails and allows the polish to adhere better. This is the first step to a longer-lasting manicure. Second, I use a basecoat. I love Orly Bonder. It’s a rubberized product that allows the color to stick to y...

Tween Room Inspiration

Our oldest just turned 10, I just can’t believe it. But ten is big and she is beginning to grow out of toys and little girl stuff. She currently shares a room with her 7 year old little sister. They sleep in sweet little twin beds and we hear them whispers and playing after bed time. It has been good for them to share a room. I think it’s a wonderful learning experience for children to share a room. I have much older half siblings, so I basically grew up as an only child. Learning to live in a shared space is such an important lesson. Respecting people areas, cleaning up after yourself... these are all great lessons. Things that will serve her well in college. This particular child is fiercely independent and thrives and recharges on solo time. As the baby of the family approaches needing to be out of the crib we know a change is on the horizon. Our house has enough bedrooms  for everyone to have their own room, but some are upstairs  near our Master bedroom and some downs...

Italian Cheese Ball

I blogged and did a IG live recently and made a cheeseball. You can see the blog post here. Cheeseballs are a fantastic item to serve at a gathering. They are easy, appetizing and unpretentious. You can make them any flavor to fit what you are looking for. This last weekend we were swimming at a friends house and I wanted to bring something for us to snack on. I made a Italian flavored cheeseball. Think of the flavors of an Italian sub, but in a cheeseball! So good. I like to mix my cheeseballs in an electro mixer... but that’s not necessary. It just needs to be well mixed. Ingredients: 2 finely chopped peperocinos 2 finely chopped cherry peppers 1 block of softened cream cheese 1/2 packet of Italian dressing (dry) 1/4 cup Parmesan Coating: 1-2 tablespoons of dried parsley 2-3 pieces of hard salami, chopped finely (blotted w/a paper towel to remove extra oil) 1/4 cup Parmesan Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate at least one hour before serving.
