Keratin Treatment

My name is Libby, and I have crazy hair.

It is crazy long, crazy thick and crazy texture.  So basically it is unruly and at times difficult to deal with.  My hair has lots on natural curl and wave, but it is not uniform.  My hair grows in curlier when I am pregnant.   It's not the kind of curl that you can wear in it's natural state. So I spend a lot of time curling and straightening

Here is a picture of my natural hair.  This is right after Barre with my best girlfriend and barre instructor.  Please excuse our sweaty make-up free faces... but you get the idea...curly and coarse in my hair game.

About 2 year ago my friend told me that she regularly got a keratin treatment on her hair.  Keratin is a naturally occurring protein in your hair.  This process adds keratin back into your hair and heat seals it.  Making my hair appear and feel smoother, less frizzy.  For me, it cuts my drying time down significantly.  It allows me to go longer between washes and hair cuts by keeping my hair healthy despite frequent heat treatment.  Unlike other treatments, this is not permanent. It washes away over time without leaving a significant grow out line.  This is a time intensive and more expensive than normal appointment for me....but oh so worth it.
Here is a picture of my hair post keratin and done

I try and get it done about 2 times a year.  I don't get it done too close to summer, salt and chlorine are not great in the upkeep.

Here is a picture of me in the middle of the process.  Gorgeous right?

It is important to use Sulfate free hair care products.  Reading labels is so important, lots of things appear to fit the"free" bill...but you start reading the fine print and they are not keratin friendly.  The better post-treatment products you use the better your results will be.

This process makes such difference in my overall hair appearance.  It allows me to keep my hair long, because it protects my hair from lots of split ends and damage. It lessens the amount of time I spend daily on actually doing my hair.
Smooth hair with less fly aways and frizz

DIY Salon Worthy Manicure at Home

DIY salon manicure at home So, like many of you mamas I don’t always have time to sneak off to the nail salon to get a manicure. Not only that, but weekly trips to the salon are not always in the budget. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love going to the salon. But the logistics get tough, I have to find someone to watch the youngest of my kiddos. So, a $30 manicure turns into a $50 outing once I pay the babysitter. More often than not, I do my nails at home. Here is how I am able achieve a salon look quickly at home. I tend do my nails at night after the kids are all in bed, while watching TV.  Starting with clean dry nails, here is my process. First, I rub hand sanitizer or rubbing alcohol on on my nails. This takes the excess oil off of my nails and allows the polish to adhere better. This is the first step to a longer-lasting manicure. Second, I use a basecoat. I love Orly Bonder. It’s a rubberized product that allows the color to stick to y...

Tween Room Inspiration

Our oldest just turned 10, I just can’t believe it. But ten is big and she is beginning to grow out of toys and little girl stuff. She currently shares a room with her 7 year old little sister. They sleep in sweet little twin beds and we hear them whispers and playing after bed time. It has been good for them to share a room. I think it’s a wonderful learning experience for children to share a room. I have much older half siblings, so I basically grew up as an only child. Learning to live in a shared space is such an important lesson. Respecting people areas, cleaning up after yourself... these are all great lessons. Things that will serve her well in college. This particular child is fiercely independent and thrives and recharges on solo time. As the baby of the family approaches needing to be out of the crib we know a change is on the horizon. Our house has enough bedrooms  for everyone to have their own room, but some are upstairs  near our Master bedroom and some downs...

Italian Cheese Ball

I blogged and did a IG live recently and made a cheeseball. You can see the blog post here. Cheeseballs are a fantastic item to serve at a gathering. They are easy, appetizing and unpretentious. You can make them any flavor to fit what you are looking for. This last weekend we were swimming at a friends house and I wanted to bring something for us to snack on. I made a Italian flavored cheeseball. Think of the flavors of an Italian sub, but in a cheeseball! So good. I like to mix my cheeseballs in an electro mixer... but that’s not necessary. It just needs to be well mixed. Ingredients: 2 finely chopped peperocinos 2 finely chopped cherry peppers 1 block of softened cream cheese 1/2 packet of Italian dressing (dry) 1/4 cup Parmesan Coating: 1-2 tablespoons of dried parsley 2-3 pieces of hard salami, chopped finely (blotted w/a paper towel to remove extra oil) 1/4 cup Parmesan Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate at least one hour before serving.
